2. Color type

3. Your words and font
The designer limits characters per line for each size so the sign stays readable. A long phrase may push you into a bigger size, and that is where cost rises. A quick trick: shorten the phrase before you size up. "Welcome to the Smith House" can become "The Smiths" on a smaller sign and still feel personal.
