Your sign arrives ready to hang, with everything you need already in the box.
This guide walks you through what’s included, how to put it up, how to look
after it, and what to do if something isn’t right.
Your sign, made to the size and color you selected
Power supply and adapter with a standard U.S. plug
Wireless remote with dimmer control
Pre-drilled mounting holes, installation screws and standoffs
Clear hanging kit
Important. The power supply shipped with your sign is the only
approved unit for it. Using a different transformer voids your warranty and risks
permanently damaging the sign.
Hold the sign where you want it. Make sure the power cable reaches an outlet
from that exact position without stretching it.
2
Plug it in before you drill anything
Unpack your sign, connect it and switch it on while it is still resting safely
on a table. Check that it lights evenly and that the remote responds. It is far
easier to sort out a problem now than after four holes are already in your wall
— and if anything is wrong, you have 7 days from delivery to tell us.
3
Look at what you’re mounting to
Drywall, brick, tile and plaster all behave differently. If you are not sure
what your wall needs, ask at a local hardware store — or
ask us before you drill.
4
Get a second pair of hands
Larger signs are much easier to line up with someone holding while you mark.
A spirit level, or the level tool on your phone, keeps the marks honest.
5
Keep it unplugged while you mount
Once you have tested it, disconnect the sign from power again and leave it
unplugged until it is on the wall and you are ready to switch it on.
Take a photo of everything laid out before you start. If you ever need our help,
that photo answers half our questions.
Two ways to put it up
Your sign comes with hardware for both. Pick whichever suits your space —
you do not need to buy anything extra.
Fixed to the wall
Wall mount with standoffs
The backboard has pre-drilled mounting holes, and the screws and standoffs are
already in the box. The standoffs hold the sign slightly off the wall, so the
glow spreads behind it.
Hold the sign in place and mark through the pre-drilled holes in the backboard.
Check the power cable still reaches your outlet from that position.
Set the sign down somewhere safe, then drill your marks and fit the screws and standoffs.
Line the backboard up on the standoffs and tighten gently — snug is enough, there is no need to force it.
Think about the cable before you switch on. Run it the shortest tidy route to the outlet. For a permanent spot, a cord cover or a clip or two along the skirting keeps it out of sight, and out of the way of anyone walking past.
Step back and check it sits level before you plug in.
Different walls need different fixings, and the right ones depend on your wall,
not on the sign. If you are unsure, check with a local hardware store or
message us first.
No fixings into the backboard
Hang it with the clear kit
Every sign also ships with a clear hanging kit, which keeps the hardware close
to invisible and suits windows, shelves and rented spaces where you would rather
not drill into a finished wall.
Attach the clear hanging kit that came in the box to your sign.
Fix the other end at the point you have chosen, using fixings suited to that surface.
Adjust until the sign hangs level.
Check the power cable reaches an outlet, then plug in.
However you hang it, the fixing has to hold the sign safely. If you are not
confident about the surface, ask us before you commit.
Installing the sign incorrectly is not covered by the warranty, so if anything about
your spot feels uncertain, message us first. We would much rather answer a question
than replace a sign.
Power and the remote
1
Connect the sign to its power supply
Use the power supply that came in the box with this sign. Connect the parts in
the order they came out of the box, and push each connector fully home —
a connector that is not quite seated is the most common reason a sign will not light.
2
Plug it into a standard U.S. outlet
No hardwiring, no rewiring, no electrician. If your outlet is switched, make sure
the switch is on. Plug the sign straight into the outlet where you can; if you do
need an extension lead, use one rated for the job and do not run it under a rug
or across a doorway.
3
Switch on and set the brightness
Use the wireless remote to turn the sign on and dim it to the level you want.
Important. Use only the power supply provided with your sign. It is
matched to that sign and to your delivery region. Using a different transformer or
adapter voids your warranty and risks permanently damaging the sign. Replacing,
rewiring or modifying any component also voids the warranty and may create a fire or
electrical hazard.
If your sign has more than one connector and you are not sure which order they go in,
take a photo and send it to
support@customneonstudio.com
before you plug anything in. We will confirm it in a reply.
Looking after your sign
Neon signs need very little. A quick dust now and then is genuinely all most of them
ever get.
Do
Switch the sign off and unplug it before you clean it
Dust with a soft, dry microfiber cloth
Let it cool before handling it
Keep the power supply and connections dry
Support the backboard, not the tubing, whenever you move it
Don’t
Use harsh or abrasive cleaners
Spray liquid onto the sign or let moisture sit on it
Pull, twist or bend the LED tubing
Open, rewire or modify any part of the sign
Hang anything from the sign or its cable
Mount it directly above a heat source such as a stove, fireplace or radiator
Modifying or repairing the sign yourself voids the warranty. If something needs
fixing, talk to us first — there is a good chance
it is covered.
Using your sign outdoors
Our neon signs are water-resistant, but they are not waterproof. They are made for
indoor use and for covered outdoor areas that are protected from rain and standing
water — a porch, a patio, or a covered terrace, for example. Your 24-month
warranty stays valid in a covered outdoor installation.
Fine
Covered porches and patios
Covered terraces and awnings
Sheltered storefronts and entryways
Anywhere the sign and its connections stay dry
Not suitable
Open walls with no cover overhead
Anywhere exposed to direct rain or water spray
Poolside positions where water can splash the sign
Anywhere the power supply or connections can get wet
Keep the power supply and every connection dry and off the ground, even under cover.
Installing a sign in an uncovered outdoor location is not covered by the warranty.
See the warranty page for the full terms.
If something isn’t right
Most problems come down to a connection or an outlet. Work down this list first
— and if none of it helps, we will take it from there.

What you’re seeing
The sign doesn’t light up at all
Try this first
Test the outlet with something else. Unplug, then reseat every connector firmly.
Confirm you are using the power supply that came with this sign.
Still not right?
Unplug it and email us a short video showing the sign, the power supply and the
connections.
What you’re seeing
Part of the sign doesn’t light

Installation questions
Do I need an electrician?
No. Your sign plugs into a standard U.S. outlet — no hardwiring and no
rewiring. Use only the power supply that came with it.
Is it hard to install?
Most signs go up in a few minutes. The backboard arrives with pre-drilled mounting
holes, and the screws, standoffs and clear hanging kit are already in the box, so
there is nothing to buy before you start.
Can I move my sign to a different wall later?
Yes. Unplug it, take it down carefully, and remount it the same way. Support the
backboard rather than the tubing while you move it.
What if I don’t want to drill into my wall?
Use the clear hanging kit that came in the box instead. It suits windows, shelves
and rented spaces where drilling into a finished wall is not an option.
Can I leave my sign on all day?
Yes. LED neon runs on low voltage and draws very little power, so it is
inexpensive to leave on for long periods. Our signs use LED components rated for
up to 50,000 hours under normal operating conditions — an estimated
component rating, separate from the warranty.
Can I use my own power adapter or extension?
No. The power supply shipped with your sign is the only approved unit for it.
A different transformer voids your warranty and risks permanently damaging the sign.
Is the mounting hardware covered by the warranty?
The sign itself is covered for 24 months and the dimmer, remote and power adapter
for 6 months. Mounting hardware is not covered by the warranty — but if
something is missing or damaged when your order arrives, tell us within 7 days and
we will sort it out.
